The Video Mapping Festival invites you to step inside the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine Church for a 4-point tour, featuring creations made by Franco-Belgian artist duos, in which the sacred meets the modern.
► Shape Memory
The transformation of metal under the influence of external forces until it reaches its final form: the utensil.
The piece explores the journey of metal, from its raw state to its transformation into a functional object. Metal is viewed here as a material subjected to stresses, shaped by a succession of physical forces: heat, pressure, torsion and abrasion.
The project brings these invisible forces to the fore in order to make them perceptible. It reveals the internal tensions, deformations and successive impacts that gradually sculpt the material until it takes on its final form.
Creation: Hamza Mrabet
Original music: Anne-Sophie Marquant
► I.C.U.
By combining a camera, a video projector and a laser, this interactive video mapping explores the shift from a free, open and creative internet towards a panoptic, suspicious and controlling network.
Please note: the work I.C.U. may be disturbing to younger viewers.
Creation: Jules Camille Huvig
Original music: Anne-Sophie Marquant
► Artificial Absolute
This mapping traces the evolution of representations of the Absolute, from sacred imagery through contemporary technological systems to artificial intelligence. It charts this transformation through a visual journey: the industrial revolution, followed by the robotic, digital and finally holographic eras, culminating in the advent of an omniscient AI.
This frantic progression towards an artificial divinity self-destructs in overheating before concluding with a return to life, as nature reclaims its rights over human constructions.
This project, which was conceived largely with the help of AI tools, introduces a paradox and questions this gradual replacement of spirituality by technology, as if humans, unable to prove the existence of a god, were attempting to recreate him themselves.
Creation: Florent Schirrer
Original music: Géraldine Kwik
► [He]ArtBeat
[He]ArtBeat transforms the altar into a living organism: a digital heartbeat courses through the architecture, revealing its invisible layers and bringing forth a tree of light, bridging the gap between baroque memory and contemporary currents.
The space breathes anew, not as a sacred space, but as a vibrant artistic body.
Creation: Patrick Grandi
Original music: Vincent Cuignet, Adrien Glineur
