Music, sound design: Jeremy Oury

Showing: Gatchina Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia – 17th to 19th of August 2023 (Light Nights in Gatchina)

Exo-Cortex 2.0 is an invitation to relax and succumb to a voice that immerses you in an introspective world of hypnose. The architecture of the facade recompose itself over and over again, mesmerizing viewers and inviting them to dive into their own subconscious and think about inner transformations.

ravensbeat

Jonas Denzel / Germany / 2023 / Monument video mapping / 9 min 47
Music, sound design: Sören Schaudel

Showing: Obertor, Ravensburg, Germany – 18th of August 2023 (10th anniversary of Museumsviertel Ravensburg)

ravensbeat is a projection not only visually based on the architecture of the Obertor but also in case of sound: the sound was recorded exclusively on the Obertor itself by knocking, clapping and wiping on the facade. Those field recordings were composed to a rousing beat. The work engages with the audience by inviting them to clap along to the rhythm within a call and response.

HAZIAK – SEMILLAS

Hartung | Trenz / Germany / 2023 / Monument video mapping / 12 min 31
Showing: Basque Parliament, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain – 9th to 11th of February 2023 (Umbra Festival)

Words like “empathy” – densely placed – form rings of light moving over the building. Countless letters flow out of these structures like plant seeds and interact with other circles. Expressions like “mindfulness” or “tolerance” form a reference and a claim to the use of the building, then as now.

MehlWelten

URBANSCREEN / Germany / 2023 / Object video mapping / 5 min
Art Director: Julian Hölscher
Music, sound design: Anders Wasserfall
Design of the kinetic wall: Carsten Falkenberg
Technical realization: LYNX Media Systems

Showing : MehlWelten Museum, Wittenburg, Germany – 1st of April 2023 (permanent exhibition)

MehlWelten is a video projection in combination with a kinetic sculpture. Flour processing in a modern mill is basically not visible, as all processes take place in a closed pipe system. This innovative didactic concept translates the processing steps from grain to refined flour into abstract images and conveys an idea of the efficiency of these modern facilities.

Biotechture

Hotaru Visual Guerrilla / Spain / 2023 / Monument video mapping / 5 min 02
Music, sound design: Martin Stavrev (The Science)

Showing: ASN Clock Tower, Sydney, Australia – 26th of May to 17th of June 2023 (Vivid Sydney)

Nature has always been a source of limitless inspiration to human beings. Throughout history, many architects have used nature as inspiration to create speculative sketches that combine organic forms with functional logic. In organic architecture, human life, nature and the built environment exist on the same level. As a result, a sustainable ecosystem is created where all components support each other and thrive. Currently, the use of living materials in architecture is a reality and a rapidly expanding field of scientific research.
This piece presents the hybridisation between the structure of architecture and organic elements, where the two worlds coexist symbiotically.

Petrichor

Robert Seidel / Germany / 2023 / Immersive video mapping / 5 min
Music, sound design: Nikolai von Sallwitz

Showing: Art Park, West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong – 13th of February to 5th of March 2023 (Creative Tomorrow / SerendiCity)

The installation Petrichor combines abstract video projections with an ambient soundscape, choreographed artificial fog and light. Named after the earthy scent created when rain falls on dry earth, the projection creates an immersive, semi-holographic light field of spectral, organic patterns reminiscent of weather phenomena and digital hybridisations of flora and fauna.

Radiant

Filip Roca / Montenegro, Spain / 2023 / Monument video mapping / 5 min
Music, sound design: Zarko Komar

Showing: Mayak, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia – 25th to 27th of August 2023 (Intervals Festival)

Radiant studies a form of light rays that scatter from an object. In this case, the facade of the Mayak building becomes a surface where this interplay happens. This work is a digital collage combined with classical 3D CGI animation and code-based generative visuals. Monochromatic graphics sometimes evolve into vivid chromatic aberration phenomena, showcasing red, orange, yellow, green, and blue hues.

ECHO

FLIGHTGRAF / Japan / 2023 / Monument video mapping / 8 min
Music, sound design: Makoto Shozu

Showing: Saints Cyril and Methodius Cathedral, Prague, Czech Republic – 12th to 14th of October 2023 (Signal Festival)

The sea is the storehouse of carbon dioxide. It is said that the basic foundation of the ecological house is phytoplankton. For instance, a dead whale can nourish various kinds of creatures for a hundred years, of which phytoplankton are born, and then they absorb carbon dioxide that had been welded into the sea.
Thanks to the invisible boon of this seemingly unconnected incidence deep in the sea, we can sustain our life. Whether or not we are aware of this graceful gift, we are all stringed with a cord of life. This connection is not limited to the environmental world. Just as the people here were once connected through the language and the rituals, today we are woven together through sound and light. This artwork tries to describe the connection between the environment and people as a line, and it is transformed into a circle, and then the whole resonates in the echo from the invisible boon. The aim is that people in the audience feel that they are part of the necessary life-line of the ecosystem.

For the Chemnitz’s first Light Our Vision Festival, ruestungsschmie.de was entrusted with the historic SED Party building and the Karl-Marx-Monument. They created a two-part mapping that dissolves surfaces, revealing hidden contents and creating new visual axes and perspectives.

Chiaroscuro

Julia Shamsheieva / Ukraine / 2023 / Monument video mapping / 3 min 30
Music, sound design: Maria Kebu, Yurii Saymory Wodolazhskyi

Showing: Palace of the Parliament, Bucharest, Romania – 23rd of September 2023 (iMapp Bucharest)

Chiaroscuro symbolises the intricacies of human nature, emphasising the duality within individuals as they navigate between virtuous and darker impulses. The piece serves as a timeless reminder that the path to goodness is not always straightforward and necessitates ongoing awareness and introspection.

Fractals

Felix Frank / Ecuador / 2023 / Monument video mapping / 7 min 47
Music, sound design: Philipp Kampmann

Showing: Saint-Étienne Cathedral, Metz, France – 22nd of July to 2nd of September 2023 (Constellations de Metz)

Fractals is a captivating visual exploration that seeks to illuminate humanity’s profound and instinctive subconscious comprehension of the world. As observers immerse themselves in this multisensory experience, they witness the creation of light. Different densities are morphing seamlessly into atmospheric gases, evolving further into liquid and intricate atomic structures, culminating in the creation of solid matter. The Cathedral, at the heart of this artistic endeavor, is subject to a never ending series of repeating patterns, where any small part resembles the whole and the whole resembles the small.
Adding another layer of depth, the orchestral soundtrack is tuned to the frequency of 432Hz, a frequency said to be in harmony with the patterns of the universe. This auditory piece enhances the overall sensory experience, inviting participants not to only witness the visual spectacle, but also to feel a profound connection with the cosmic rhythm that underlies the very fabric of existence.
Fractals transcends traditional boundaries, inviting individuals to explore the building stones and frequencies that shape our universe.

Four Views on Wagenfeld

Luminar Tracing / Germany / 2023 / Object video mapping / 4 min 17
Music, sound design: Lucas Hoge

Showing: Wilhelm Wagenfeld Haus, Bremen, Germany – 18th and 19th of November 2023 (30th anniversary of the Wilhelm Wagenfeld Haus)

Fynn Fenton, Paul Donner, and Lucas Hoge collaborated on Four Views on Wagenfeld for their Bachelor project, with the Wilhelm Wagenfeld Haus. They showcased the installation during the Wilhelm Wagenfeld Foundation’s 30th anniversary. The projections focus on 4 different aspects of the Bauhaus lamp: not only “Gestaltsprache” (design language) but also colour, form and shadow.
For the soundtrack and sound design, they collected sound samples from exhibits in the Wilhelm Wagenfeld House itself. They were able to walk through the entire Museum and its archives to sample sounds of lamp shades, butter cases, and numerous kitchen items. They ended up with over 120 recordings.
The project aims to enhance the visitors’ experience, dynamically showcasing Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s famous Bauhaus lamp in a more immersive manner, inspiring visitors beyond traditional exhibit boundaries.

Marisfrolg’s anniversary

Yann Nguema / France / 2023 / Immersive video mapping / 3 min
Music, sound design: Zero gr4vity

Showing: Marisfrolg headquarters, Shenzhen, China – 15th of September 2023 (Marisfrolg 30th anniversary)

For its 30th anniversary, Chinese fashion brand Marisfrolg and the APAX Group commissioned Yann Nguema to create an immersive projection for the evening’s opening and the new collection’s runway show. The event also inaugurated the public opening of the brand’s headquarters, designed by New Zealand architecture firm Van Brandenburg. Highly inspired by the natural elements, the building is an incredible place of timeless elegance and beauty.
The projection took place in one of the large rooms on the vaulted ceiling and a huge vertical screen.
The opening exploits natural elements and patterns drawn by a luminous lichen in perpetual motion. Starting from a single point, the organic forms gradually invade the space to compose increasingly rich and complex tableaux. They reflect the brand’s rise over the past 30 years, while also resonating with the very strong aesthetic of architecture.
