Video mapping tour

For the 4th year running, the City of Roubaix is giving the Video Mapping Festival free rein for a tour through the city centre’s emblematic locations! This year, discover a new piece on the facade of the City Hall, collective creations designed by students from ésaat and Piktura on the Saint-Martin Church and the facade of La Piscine museum, as well as a mapping created by young professionals in training at the National Archives of the World of Work.

As part of the Nuits des Arts lumineux of Roubaix.

► Urban Breath
Urban Breath offers a poetic interpretation of the city as a living organism.
Through a succession of visual transformations projected onto the facade, the mapping reveals different layers of the urban space: the spontaneous creativity of street art, the quiet presence of indoor life visible through windows, the organic forms of living things that are often invisible, and finally the networks and underlying structures that organise the city.
A final evocation of architectural heritage places these dynamics within a historical continuum, before a rhythmic sequence in which all these dimensions coexist.
The mapping thus composes a sensitive metaphor for the contemporary city, balancing memory, collective energy and creative effervescence.

► Along the Thread of Work
This mapping offers an immersive journey through the history of the National Archives of the World of Work building. The installation first traces its industrial past, as the former Motte-Bossut Spinning Mill – nicknamed “the monster mill”’ – which operated from 1843 to 1981. It then takes us into the archives featured in the exhibition Vivre ou survivre, dedicated to working conditions in the 19ᵗʰ and 20ᵗʰ centuries. Between industrial heritage and social struggles, a visual journey to the heart of the history of this iconic Roubaix building!
