The Video Mapping Festival offers a Video Mapping Contest as part of the Lille tour. This year, the 6 selected candidates will present their work on La Voix du Nord facade; a Jury made of professionals will award a Grand Prize, possibly an honorable mention, and the public will choose an Audience Prize by SMS vote (Friday only).

In addition to the 4 000€ grant for the creation, each winner (Grand Prize and Audience Prize) will receive a second financial prize to propose a creation, one for the next edition of iMapp Bucharest (monetary prize offered by iMapp Bucharest), the other for the Lyon Festival of Lights (monetary prize of 4 000€ offered by Christie and ADC Production).

Concurrent n°1
Raphaëlle Martinez (France)

▶︎ La rubrique des pigeons
La rubrique des pigeons pays tribute to the people and birds who acted as messengers, whilst celebrating the newspapers once distributed illegally, as an allegory for the pigeons that delivered messages and news despite the prohibitions. As noble and popular symbols, these are precious stories from the North that tell of connection and mutual support. The mapping follows the journey of a pigeon setting off from La Voix du Nord, travelling through the countryside to a small town, where it delivers the news to the inhabitants.

Creation: Raphaëlle Martinez
Original music: Raphaëlle Martinez, Jaimeen Desai

Concurrent n°2
MØJØ Studio (Portugal)

▶︎ ETHER
ETHER imagines the facade of La Voix du Nord as a transmitter surrounded by an invisible field of signals and memories. In 4 movements – condensation, tuning, full field and dissipation – the building gradually stops behaving like stone and becomes a temporary body for this ether, before returning to stillness with a faint afterimage.

Creation: MØJØ Studio

Concurrent n°3
Kubakub (Austria)

▶︎ Foreign_v2
Foreign_v2 treats the facade as a body fighting to integrate two souls. The building ruptures into a battle between Crystalline Purple memory and Molten Orange possibility. Using AI&3D-generated kitbashing, the architecture undergoes a hyper-accelerated evolution. From vertical disorientation to a stabilized gaze, the project reveals that identity is not static, but a permanent, beautiful state of flux.

Creation: Kubakub
Original music: Wiedenski & Kubakub

Concurrent n°4
Shadi Jafarabadi (Allemagne, Iran)

▶︎ Monetary Mirrors
Monetary Mirrors brings portraits from historical banknotes to life as they sing about power in German and English. Through sound, light, and archival imagery, the piece reveals how money shapes identity and inequality. For the La Voix du Nord edition, local French banknotes and the building’s iconic statues anchor a narrative linking Lille’s economic history to global financial structures.

Creation: Shadi Jafarabadi
Original Music & AI Sound Design: Shadi Jafarabadi

Concurrent n°5
The Fox, The Folks (Indonésia)

▶︎ The Giant’s Lullaby
The Giant’s Lullaby reflects the interplay of rest, struggle and transformation as the Giant seeks calm amid rising chaos. The La Voix du Nord facade becomes a living canvas, shifting from motion to stillness, revealing the fragile beauty of vulnerability. In a world that grows increasingly restless, where true rest feels harder and harder to find, the Giant’s journey mirrors our collective search for pause and restoration. Breakthroughs toward comfort and healing emerge through moments of quiet resilience, suggesting how dreams and stillness can guide us back toward balance even in times of turbulence.

Creation: The Fox, The Folks
Original music: The Fox, The Folks

Concurrent n°6
John Tettenborn & Kourtney Lara Ross (Germany)

▶︎ SPEC
The architectural surface of the building is the cage we want to break out of using abstract experimental video mapping techniques. The repetitive bassline defines the strict parameters in which we can operate and does not accommodate discomfort. The light of the projectors cannot penetrate the surface of the building, but the bass pushes the animations through, until at the end – the building is free.

Creation: John Tettenborn & Kourtney Lara Ross
